A new study tracking more than 47,000 women over three decades suggests that coffee may help lead to a longer and healthier life. It found women who drank one to three cups per day in middle age were more likely to experience “healthy aging.” NBC medical contributor Dr. Natalie Azar joins TODAY to break down the results of this study.

  1. Any “correlation” study cannot be trusted scientifically. She literally said nothing that had scientific backing regarding how the “bioactive compounds” in the coffee would contribute to “healthy aging”. The correlation could simply be that these woman “rested more” by taking the time to sit down for a cup of coffee or something stupid like that, where their non-coffee-drinking counterparts spend more time being stressed over work without that “crucial coffee break” to destress.

  2. In my crazy experience with alcohol for 20 years i was actually able to avoid liver disease by drinking black coffee ! no sugar through out the day after drinking alcohol… I feel lucky no liver problems… Nowadays im sober too . I don't want to push my luck anymore either. My doctor's were surprised too .

  3. So, coffee is good for you, again. Like so many foods and beverages coffee is bad for you one year, the next its good for you. Think coffee growers might have something to do with this, and another reason to raise prices?

  4. If the study was interventional and decaf didn't work then either it would be the caffeine that is beneficial or the chemicals from the decaffeinating process cause quite a bit of harm. This study is observational though. Most likely they didn't account for all confounding factors and people who drink caffeinated coffee are different, on average, in many ways from those who don't.

  5. I guess that coffee slows liver disease. I knew someone who drank a fifth of vodka every day for many years — no, it wasn’t me as my weak gut couldn’t handle that! — and he also drank a lot of coffee. He died just before he turned 70 but surprisingly it wasn’t from liver disease. (I knew a gal who drank maybe two-fifths of vodka every day and she died at 50 from memory. But everyone knew she was on borrowed time as her skin was basically yellow.)

  6. This is weird….you would think tea would be healthier.
Still trying to find my sweet spot of what's to much and what's not enough.
I get tired almost immediately when I dring more then 1 cup…not sure why

  7. I used to drink coffee. When I stopped, all my headaches and stomach issues vanished. I love it, and miss it, but it's not worth it to me.

  8. Bunch of laughing cacklers, talking real fast over each other. Talk 5 minutes then 5 minutes of commercials. Learned absolutely nothing. This is why I use chrome. Personalities and voices are terrible on the big 3.

  9. I can't think of another topic in which doctors and studies go back-and-forth on, seemingly weekly. This morning is the first time for me switching to tea, instead of coffee, after watching a doctor talking about coffee and high blood pressure. After watching this, tomorrow I'll be drinking…?

  10. Black coffee does help the liver. I've known this. The issue is when you add all those chemical laden creamers. Good coffee doesn't need that stuff. But every few years, it seems studies are done about the benefits (or lack of) on coffee..one day it's good, another day it's bad.. pick one!
